Remembering those days when I was a kid...
I never thought Kindergarten was fun…. I never even thought school was fun at all. School was like a big burden on my shoulder that I was being pushed to carry, out of an obligation as a kid. Sometimes the push felt a bit harsh too.
I realised today that it was probably the reason why I didn’t fully develop myself, besides academically. All we were measured was just by scores, which somehow I managed to ‘escape’ most of the time. That old paradigm, "As long as your academic scores are good, then you're okay," had turned out to drag me down.
No one was to be blamed, neither were my parents. All they knew was it was the best thing for me. And there was no other choices anyway.
Being a parent today, I want to make sure I don’t do the same mistakes to my kids. School has to be fun! Hence why I'm being very selective in choosing one, in a sense that it must have certain qualities.
Scores should not be everything in a kid’s life. Rank system should be banished. Let the kids develop as they are, and not being pushed out of their parents' ambitions. That way, I hope I can see them grow fully not only as a good and intelligent human, but most importantly, also being the best of themselves.
